How do you use the internet? Is there a gap between your work and the community you’d like to form around it? Are there projects you’d like to launch but aren’t sure how to fund or get started?
Let’s talk about New Media. New Media is the communication of one’s story, work, project, or brand via the internet. Over the last five years, it’s become an unprecedented skill set across all industries. Whether you’re a single freelancer or creative, a small business or giant brand, New Media is integral to your success in engaging audiences.
What’s a new media workshop? Think of a workshop as a skills intensive or “bootcamp” only in a fun, interactive environment. It’s an opportunity to receive direct feedback on your (or your brand or business’s) internet presence, and explore different options for refining your work and reaching more people.
What skills will we work on? Through a combination of examples, exercises, and tool-kits, we’ll explore writing, photo, video, crowdsourcing, fundraising, social media, branding, building an audience / community.
Where? The Zimerman Seminar Room, Asheville JCC, 236 Charlotte St, Asheville, NC
When? Oct 17, 2013, 6-9 PM
What do I bring? Just yourself, your creativity, questions, ideas, and whatever you’d like to use to take notes. WiFi will be available. Although not required, a laptop or tablet for bookmarking would be helpful.
How much is the workshop? Up to you. If you could help me cover the cost of the room / materials, that would be great, so I’m suggesting a $10 donation (you can donate via Paypal / credit card at right). But the goal isn’t to make a profit; it’s about providing a resource to the community. Please give what you can. Thx!
Who is teaching? My name is David Miller; I’m an editor and educator raising my family here in Asheville. [Learn more about me.] I look forward to working with you and learning about your projects.
